It doesn&#8217;t feel like a coincidence.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"c0\"><span class=\"c1\">Tether (<a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/currencies\/tether\/\">USDT<\/a>)<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aside from the multiple incidences of hacks and lost funds, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitfinex.com\/\">Bitfinex<\/a> also still have to answer for their sister company&#8217;s controversies, Tether. It is no secret that Bitfinex and Tether have received subpoenas from U.S regulators. [<a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/bitfinex-tether-get-subpoenas-from-us-regulators\">1<\/a>]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speculations that Bitfinex has been \u201coperating a fractional reserve and is covering over its reserve deficit in complicity with Bitfinex\u201d has existed since early 2017. These allegations are nothing new. [<a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/unconfirmed-polish-prosecutors-seize-400-mln-amid-allegations-bitfinex-is-implicated-in-fraud\">2<\/a>]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"c8\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-690 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Untitled-2-300x151.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"608\" height=\"306\" srcset=\"https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Untitled-2-300x151.jpg 300w, https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Untitled-2-768x387.jpg 768w, https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Untitled-2-1024x516.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 608px) 100vw, 608px\" \/><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And remember when Bitfinex and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptocapital.co\/\">CryptoCapital<\/a> supposedly severed official relations? Not even a few months later, Bitfinex is still associated with CryptoCapital, and the relationship has not improved for the better.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to statements in April 26, 2018, Bitfinex sent $850 million of customer and corporate funds to CryptoCapital Corp., and along the way it was \u201clost\u201d. Representatives of Bitfinex and Tether reported to the NY Attorney General\u2019s office that CryptoCapital claims the funds were seized by Portugese, Polish, and American government officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-693 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/test-265x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"265\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/test-265x300.jpg 265w, https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/test-768x869.jpg 768w, https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/test-905x1024.jpg 905w, https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/test.jpg 1721w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 265px) 100vw, 265px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An official confirmation submitted by Bitfinex stated that their respondents did not believe CryptoCapital\u2019s representations that the funds have been seized.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, the $850 million loss severely impaired Bitfinex\u2019s ability to process funds and withdrawal requests as \u201cCryptoCapital, which held all or almost all of Bitfinex\u2019s funds, refused to process customer withdrawal requests and refused or was unable to return any funds to Bitfinex.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This clearly caused Bitfinex major difficulties and processing delays, despite official denials from the company\u2019s representatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allegedly, funds from Tether\u2019s reserve were then used to make up the shortfall, but neither the loss nor Tether\u2019s fund movements were disclosed to customers and investors. If true, this would very much validate the speculations of 2017. [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/bitfinex-ny-prosecutors-tether-850-million-allege\">3<\/a>]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also a testament to the fact that CryptoCapital has never had a good public reputation. CryptoCapital never had the performance track record of being the most reliable financial processor either. Complaints regarding speed and reliability has been a common occurrence and regularly affects related exchanges. It is very questionable how they earned the reputability needed to associate with such a wide network of exchanges. [<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ccxt\/ccxt\/issues\/4826\">4<\/a>]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-684 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/burning-money-2113914_960_720-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"444\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/burning-money-2113914_960_720-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/burning-money-2113914_960_720-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/synq.tech\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/burning-money-2113914_960_720.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 444px) 100vw, 444px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It would also explain Bitfinex\u2019s history of hostility towards critics, especially ones who would question the secrecy of their banking processes, unsurprisingly. The company is known to respond defensively to negative comments by threatening accusers with legal litigation, instead of transparency. [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/bitfinex-vs-bitfinexed-exchange-hires-law-firm-challenge-critics\">5<\/a>]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But not just Bitfinex, remember that CryptoCapital\u2019s very well connected network. Their website names among its customers the now-defunct <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/4-agencies-are-investigating-crypto-exchange-quadrigacx-ey-report\"><strong>QuadrigaCX<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/coinapult-finds-solution-to-crypto-regulation-and-reopens-services-to-us\">Coinapult<\/a>, among others. And according to the Wayback Machine, past customers also included exchanges like Kraken, BTCC and Bitt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet it seems as time progresses, the number of CryptoCapital\u2019s allies dwindle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most have met their ends under questionable circumstances.
